Abstract	Context
	St. Edmund's College at Salisbury, Wiltshire

Brand: Thomas of Barton was appointed by the bishop as provost of the college of St Edmund, Salisbury. When he entered a religious order the bishop conferred the provostship on Nicholas of Alwardebury. Nicholas brought Novel disseisin against Thomas and others for land belonging to the provostship. The court declined to take jurisdiction since the land was accessory to the office and only an ecclesiastical court could properly decide who was the rightful provost.
