Process and Pleading
Defendant pleaded that there was no such vill or hamlet nor place outside of any vill or hamlet within the same county (as that named by plaintiff in plaintiff's writ).
This was held a good plea.
Language Notes (Law French)
Abstract Context
Commentary & Paraphrase
it was said that where the writ is 'at the manor of D. in S.' the venue (visne, jury) will come from the vill, that is, from the venue (visneto) of S. and not from the venue (de visneto) of the manor, but if it be solely in one manor (perhaps, at the manor of D. in such a county), it is no plea to plead that the manor was in S. because the venue comes from 'the venue of the manor' (de visneto manorii), etc.
Reporter (R.): query, whether it be no plea to plead (a dire) that the manor is a vill; it seems that it is no plea (non)
