Statham Dower 48 was dated Pasch. 2 Hen. 5, and stated: in Dower, if I show that her husband never had anything except for life, it is sufficient for her to say; 'Seised so that he could endow her', but if I show an estate of inheritance in her husband, to wit: that the lands were given to him and to his first wife in tail, then she should answer the special matter, for that is matter in law, which does not lie in the notice of lay people, etc.
