Bailiffs of Canterbury had a charter of 1 Hen. 4 (1399-1400)

Statham Conusance 16 identified the bailiffs of 'H.' and added that the bailiffs of H. had cognizance on the first day, notwithstanding that the court was seised of the body of the defendant who was not bailable (maympernable), etc.; see the Statute of Laborers as to whether he be bailable (maympernable).
Statham Barre 66 stated that defendant pleaded that he was retained upon condition that if defendant was pleased with his service at the end of one month next ensuing, etc., then he would serve plaintiff for the whole year, and if not, that he would depart, and he said that he was not pleased at the ned of the month, and he departed; and it was adjudged a good plea.
