Developed by poet and curator Klara du Plessis, Deep Curation is an experimental approach to poetry reading organization, emphasizing the directed nature of literary event planning. In its most basic iteration, the curator, rather than the performing poets, chooses the exact works presented and the reading order of those works. In its more robust form, poems are excerpted, intertwined, and layered to heighten the dialogue between different poets’ bodies of work. A thematic arc and theoretical framework cradle interconnected poetic fragments as they become a new whole together. Deep Curation maintains the minimalism of the poetry reading as a genre, while being more intentional about poetic material presented. This Deep Curation poetry reading will feature Lee Ann Brown and Sawako Nakayasu, with audio inserts by Fanny Howe, and an introduction by Klara du Plessis.
