Identifying Navigational Patterns in Website Traffic for Botnet Detection

Abstract: : Websites, and retail websites specifically, are targeted by automatic tools ("Bots") to make fraudulent activities and to abuse special sale campaigns for profit. Seeing a persistent increase in ּּBot usage and sophistication, we at Akamai’s Threat Research group are devising new general approaches for detecting Bot traffic and preventing it from achieving malicious goals. Naturally, our solution space tends towards Data Science methods and realms, with which we can profile, train and validate on Akamai's real-time data from the largest websites on the Internet. Moshe will discuss advances in the Bot-detection field and recent developments originating from Akamai’s Threat Research group.

Bio: Moshe Zioni is a cybersecurity professional with 20 years of experience in a variety of domains – IoT, Hardware Hacking, Web Application Security, Network Protocol Security, Malware Analysis and Reverse Engineering. He leads the Threat Research Group at Akamai, which sports visibility into 30% of all Internet traffic while protecting the most prolific retail, financial, hi-tech, gaming and media companies around the world. Mr. Zioni is a regular contributor to various cybersecurity communities, and has presented at Blackhat, CCC , 44CON, BSidesTLV, and other international venues. He has been involved with (at least) six Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures (CVE) disclosures.
