(1988) and Ph.D. (1992) degrees from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, all in electrical engineering. Since 1992, he has been a professor at Boston University. He is currently a Distinguished Professor of Engineering appointed in electrical and computer engineering, biomedical engineering, physics, materials science and engineering, and graduate medical sciences. His research interests are in the areas of nanophotonics and biophotonics focusing on the development of biological detection and imaging techniques, particularly in high-throughput digital biosensors based on the detection of individual biological nanoparticles, viruses, and single molecule counting.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dr. \u00dcnl\u00fc has authored and co-authored &gt;200 journal articles and has over 12,000 citations (<em>h-index<\/em><span>\u00a0<\/span>of<span>\u00a0<\/span><strong>59<\/strong>); edited one book; and holds 19 US\/international patents. In 2021, he was selected as Boston University Innovator of the Year. Dr. \u00dcnl\u00fc<span>\u00a0<\/span>is a Fellow of IEEE, Optica, and AIMBE. He was awarded the Science Award (2008) by the Turkish Scientific Foundation.<span> <\/span>He started iRiS Kinetics Inc. in 2019 and currently serves as the President and CEO. She received scholarships to complete part of her Ph.D. studies with Frans Spaepen at the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences (SEAS) at Harvard University in Applied Physics. After completing her PhD, she worked as a post-doctoral fellow and as an Associate Researcher in Applied Physics at SEAS Harvard University. In 2021 she graduated with distinction from Harvard Business Analytics program. She founded Crimson Data Analytics, a business data analytics consulting firm in 2019. Demet has been the Principal of Orhan Gunduz Memorial School since January 2020 which is an on-profit Turkish language school.
