The central question for the cardiomyopathy variants is whether we can detect differences in contraction and relaxation velocity in 3D structures measured using our 96 well platform. Robust functional assays capable of differentiating these effects would be useful. A large number of replicates will give us the ability to assess the variability well. The question is whether contractile effects of these variants are different across the µTug platforms vs the Helms 2D micropatterned tissues. There could be advantages of the greater number of cells per tissue in the µTugs as well as effects of being 3D tissues.

<h4 class="bu_collapsible" aria-expanded="false"tabindex="0" role="button">Learning Goals

• Learn to used 96 well platform
• Establish pipeline of material transfer between Helms lab and Bifano lab
• Design experiments to answer primary and secondary questions.

Project Timeline

Week 1: Orientation (w/ materials provided by Francisco Sanchez)
Week 2: Material transfer and tissue seeding at BU (w/ Josh Lee)
Week 3: Preliminary testing
Week 4: Data analysis, additional testing
Week 5: Interpretation and presentation

Project Description The project would involve using our 96 well-plate platform with microtugs to assess tissues from cells produced by the Adam Helms lab.
