She initially wanted to go into prosthetics, but has since continued to explore different STEM avenues. Prior to this REU program, she had no research experience outside the classroom.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Characterizing Relaxin-2 as a Therapeutic Candidate for Fibrosis:<\/strong> Ayomide worked in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/photonics-programs\/profile\/mark-grinstaff\/\"><strong>Mark Grinstaff&#8217;s<\/strong><\/a> lab, with her primary focus on characterizing Relaxin-2 as a therapeutic candidate for fibrosis. Effectively, the goal of her project was in getting fibrosis to \u201crelax\u201d in a laboratory setting. She was mentored by <strong>Heather Murray<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<h4 class=\"q4tvle JqSWld yqQS1\" aria-label=\"How do you feel the REU program went? Was it what you were anticipating?\" aria-disabled=\"true\" role=\"textbox\" tabindex=\"0\"><strong>&#8220;This has been an extremely valuable learning experience in so many ways. I\u2019m especially pleased with the flow of the program and how each week I was able to progress in my level of understanding, my enhancement of skills and techniques, and my independence and creativity.
