Having been interested in STEM as far back as elementary school, Futchi had received scholarship funding his sTEM journey. Following his time at BU&#8217;s Photonics REU program, he aims to pursue a graduate degree after completing his Bachelor&#8217;s.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Thermocapillary Manipulation of Liquid Optical Waveguides: Futchi&#8217;s research project in <\/span>Valeri Frumkin&#8217;s lab <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">focused on light curvatures through fluid. By suspending liquids, his goal was to make a liquid film to control the curvatures by placing in an optical fiber, which helped view the patterns as they unfolded. His mentors were Jacob Garrett and Ryan Engle.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<div class=\"Qr7Oae\" role=\"listitem\">\n<div class=\"OxAavc NVbRL\" jsname=\"ibnC6b\" jscontroller=\"rDGJeb\" jsaction=\"sPvj8e:e4JwSe,Dlbleb;O22p3e:e4JwSe,F0zejc;\" data-required=\"true\" data-item-id=\"1000987864\">\n<div class=\"Ih4Dzb\">\n<h4 class=\"q4tvle JqSWld yqQS1\" aria-label=\"1.
