Her engineering education did not begin in a classroom but at the Brandeis University MakerLab where she has been employed since her sophomore year. With the\u00a0 technical, interpersonal, and collaborative skills she developed through her work at the makerspace and as a TA, Penny was well-prepared for her summer in the Sabelhaus lab.\u00a0 Penny intends to study engineering and robotics in grad school.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/photonics-programs\/wp-admin\/post.php?post=8211&amp;action=edit\">Motion Tracking for Soft Robotic Arms<\/a>:<\/strong> Penelope&#8217;s project with <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/photonics-programs\/profile\/andrew-sabelhaus\/\">Andrew Sabelhaus<\/a><\/strong>, within the Soft Robotics Control Lab, focused on<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> tracking the soft robot&#8217;s movement along three axes using linear algebra, with the goal of extrapolating data from its coordinates.<\/span> Her mentors were <strong>Isara Cholaseuk<\/strong> and<strong> Juan Pac<\/strong><strong>h<\/strong><strong>eco<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;I came into the REU with the intention of building a strong network of people who could help me with upcoming graduate school applications, produce strong work that builds my resume, and turns me into a stronger candidate for my future endeavors.
