Following a previous REU experience that focused on machine learning, Ricardo wanted to gain additional lab experience before pursuing a PhD in nanophotonics.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/photonics-programs\/2025\/09\/18\/ekinci\/\">Hardware Programming for nano-electrical-mechanical systems (NEMS):<\/a> Ricardo&#8217;s project with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/photonics-programs\/profile\/kamil-ekinci\/\">Kamil Ekinci<\/a>, focused on<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> utilizing a Nanoelectricalmechanical Systems (NEMS) Resonator with the goal of implementing a machine learning algorithm to identify differential equations based on data collected<\/span>. His graduate student mentor was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/photonics-programs\/?p=8581&amp;preview=true\">Monan Ma<\/a>.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<div class=\"Qr7Oae\" role=\"listitem\">\n<div class=\"OxAavc NVbRL\" jsname=\"ibnC6b\" jscontroller=\"rDGJeb\" jsaction=\"sPvj8e:e4JwSe,Dlbleb;O22p3e:e4JwSe,F0zejc;\" data-required=\"true\" data-item-id=\"758666387\">\n<div class=\"Ih4Dzb\">\n<h4 class=\"q4tvle JqSWld yqQS1\" aria-label=\"How do you feel the REU program went? The research project I got was aligned with my interests and everyone from the REU program was so friendly. Got to do a lot of stuff I never thought I was going to do.
