No <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">amount of<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> emissions reductions alone will be able to reduce emissions enough to stop irreparable global warming. <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Thus, <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Direct Air Capture<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> (DAC) of <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Carbon Dioxide<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> (CO2) is needed to help remove existing <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">emissions <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">in<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> our environment<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">.<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">But there remain significant unknowns<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">, from the system design to adsorbent material to plant implementation.<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> This project aims to study the thermal properties of adsorbent materials for DAC of CO2 through Hot Disk thermal conductivity and heat capacity measurements.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">REU <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">student<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> will take thermal conductivity and heat capacity measurements for a Direct Air Capture (DAC) adsorbent material on a Hot Disk Instrument. <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Student<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> will develop DAC adsorbent sample preparation methods compatible <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">for<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> Hot Disk measurements.<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> Additionally, sample holders for Hot Disk measurements may be designed and fabricated in EPIC. <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Additionally, the student will help calibrate the Hot Disk Instrument using known samples to verify its proper operation and quantify measurement variance due to differently sized sensors.
