NSF requires that participants are U.S. citizens or permanent residents.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #367c9b;\"><strong>Do participants need to be local to Boston or the surrounding metropolitan area?<br \/>\n<\/strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Yes, this RET is meant for educators who teach at public schools in Boston and surrounding communities.<\/span><strong><br \/>\n<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #367c9b;\"><strong>Are student teachers or senior college education majors eligible?<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #333333;\">No, only current certified teachers at public high schools and community college faculty members are eligible.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #367c9b;\"><strong>What research projects are available this year?<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #333333;\">Projects will be uploaded throughout early spring. Please refer to our Past Summer Projects and Past Participants pages to understand the types of projects we offer.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #367c9b;\"><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">How do you match participants to research groups?<\/span><\/strong><\/span><br \/>\nThe placement of RET participants in research groups is based on interests and experience. Physics teachers will likely be placed in mechanical engineering or optics labs; biology teachers will work in biomedical engineering labs; and chemistry teachers might work in labs focused on materials science.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"bu_collapsible_container \" aria-live=\"polite\" data-customize-animation=\"false\"><h5 class=\"bu_collapsible\" aria-expanded=\"false\"tabindex=\"0\" role=\"button\">Application Process<\/h5><div class=\"bu_collapsible_section\" style=\"display: none;\"><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #367c9b;\">When is the application deadline?<\/span><br \/>\n<\/strong>The deadline for applications is April 10.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #367c9b;\"><strong>Is there an application fee?<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\nNo, there is no fee to apply for the RET program.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #367c9b;\"><strong>When do teachers find out if they\u2019ve been accepted into the RET program?<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\nWe work on a rolling admissions basis and could begin accepting teachers in March. We expect to notify all applicants no later than April 15.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #367c9b;\"><strong>What are the selection criteria? What is the selection process?<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\nApplications are reviewed by the program administrators and faculty members involved in the RET program. Teachers will be selected based on their interest in research, teaching experience, alignment with our program&#8217;s focus areas, and potential to incorporate research experiences into their classroom curriculum.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"bu_collapsible_container \" aria-live=\"polite\" data-customize-animation=\"false\"><h5 class=\"bu_collapsible\" aria-expanded=\"false\"tabindex=\"0\" role=\"button\">Program Details and Expectations<\/h5><div class=\"bu_collapsible_section\" style=\"display: none;\"><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #367c9b;\">Does this program provide housing?<\/span><br \/>\n<\/strong>No, this program is for teachers who live and work in Boston and surrounding communities. Participants are expected to commute to BU each day of the six-week program.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #367c9b;\"><strong>Is the starting date flexible?<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\nOnly in rare circumstances may it be possible to adjust the starting date.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #367c9b;\">What are the working hours?<\/span><br \/>\n<\/strong>The program will run from Monday through Friday, from approximately 9 am to 5 pm (exact work times will be determined with your lab). We do accommodate summer teaching schedules for community college faculty participants.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #367c9b;\"><strong>Should I bring a car to campus?<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\nParking passes are provided for participants who opt to drive to BU.
