Allison 1937-2023<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is with great sadness that we report the death, on June 5<sup>th<\/sup>, of our former colleague, Henry E. Allison.\u00a0 Henry held the Findlay Chair in BU\u2019s Department of Philosophy back in 1995.\u00a0 He then joined the Department as a permanent member in 1996 until retiring from BU in 2004.\u00a0 Without question, he was one of the most influential Kant scholars of the last fifty years, writing on nearly all aspects of Kant\u2019s philosophy.\u00a0 Perhaps his most influential work was <em>Kant\u2019s Transcendental Idealism<\/em>, first published in 1983 and then in revised form, in 2004.\u00a0 Admired for its exceptional clarity, erudition and intelligence, this book is still considered a ground-breaking interpretation of Kant\u2019s theoretical philosophy.\u00a0 Henry was a rigorous and prolific historian of philosophy.\u00a0 In addition to his many works on Kant, he published monographs on Lessing (1966), Hume (2010) and Spinoza (2022).\u00a0 He was a Fellow of the Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters and was elected in 2023 to the American Academy of Arts &amp; Sciences.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Interests:<\/strong> Kant, Spinoza, German Idealism, Eighteenth and Nineteenth Century Philosophy<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":7468,"template":"","_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/philo\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/profile\/520"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/philo\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/profile"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/philo\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/profile"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/philo\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/7468"}],"version-history":[{"count":3,"href":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/philo\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/profile\/520\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":9396,"href":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/philo\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/profile\/520\/revisions\/9396"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/philo\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=520"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
