I’m a\u00a0<\/span>Professor of<\/span>\u00a0Philosophy\u00a0<\/a>and\u00a0<\/span>Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies<\/a>\u00a0<\/span>at<\/span>\u00a0Boston University<\/a>. I am also currently the Director of the Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies Program, \u00a0an area editor at\u00a0<\/span>Ergo<\/a>, on the editorial board at\u00a0<\/span>Hobbes Studies<\/a>, and a member of the Advisory Board for\u00a0<\/span>The Early Career Workshop for Women* in Philosophy<\/a>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

I received my Ph.D. in Philosophy in 2005 from\u00a0<\/span>The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill<\/a>. I also received a graduate degree in Women’s Studies from\u00a0<\/span>Duke University<\/a>. Before coming to Boston University, I was an Assistant Professor of Philosophy and Women’s Studies at\u00a0<\/span>Tulane University<\/a>\u00a0in New Orleans. My research focuses on early modern political thought. My first book,\u00a0<\/span>Hobbes on Resistance: Defying the Leviathan<\/em>,<\/a>\u00a0came out with Cambridge University Press in 2010. My second book,\u00a0<\/span>Hobbes on Sex<\/a><\/em>, was published in 2025 by Oxford University Press.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
