Areas of Interest<\/strong>: Metaphysics, Phenomenology, Aesthetics, Ethics<\/p>\n

Before coming to Boston University, Dr. Dahlstrom taught at Santa Clara University and Catholic University of America. He has also held visiting appointments at Katholieke Universiteit Leuven (Belgium) and Boston University. Awarded a Mellon Foundation Grant for work on medieval logic in the Vatican Microfilm Library, Dr. Dahlstrom has also received two Fulbright awards, a summer grant from DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service) for research in T\u00fcbingen, a summer grant from the National Endowment of the Humanities for work at Princeton University on German thought and letters, a Humboldt award for research in Cologne on the thought of Kant, Hegel, and eighteenth century German aesthetics, and more recently, support from the Fritz Thyssen Foundation for research on Heidegger\u2019s later thought. Dr. Dahlstrom is the recipient of the 1997 Undergraduate Philosophy Club Excellence in Teaching Award. In recent years, Dr. Dahlstrom served on the executive council of SPEP (Society for Phenomenology and Existential Philosophy), co-hosting its 43rd annual conference in Boston in the Fall of 2004. A regular member of the North American Heidegger Conference, Dr. Dahlstrom hosted its 40th annual meeting at Boston University in the Spring of 2006.<\/p>\n

From 2009-10, at the invitation of Israel\u2019s Council of Higher Education (CHE), he headed an international committee charged with reviewing each Israeli University\u2019s Philosophy Department, writing reports for each department, and drafting and presenting a general report to the CHE in Jerusalem. A former Presiding Officer of the Heidegger Circle (2008-11), Professor Dahlstrom was the editor of the first four volumes of Gatherings: The Heidegger Circle Annual<\/em> from 2011-14. He was voted president of the Metaphysical Society of America for 2009-10 and president of the American Catholic Philosophical Association for 2013-14. Since 1997, the end of his first full academic year at Boston University, he has been the second reader for 15 doctoral dissertations and the director\/first reader for 17 doctoral dissertations. All but one of the latter went on to teaching positions, 12 of them tenure-track or tenured positions at such institutions as Wellesley, Xavier, Louisville, York, UCal-Merced, Florida International, Auburn, Scranton, King\u2019s College, Sussex, and Leuven (Belgium).<\/p>\n
