{"id":9,"date":"2010-06-25T12:44:48","date_gmt":"2010-06-25T16:44:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/pasi\/?page_id=9"},"modified":"2011-01-31T19:14:27","modified_gmt":"2011-02-01T00:14:27","slug":"about","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/pasi\/about\/","title":{"rendered":"About"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.energy.gov\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-300 alignleft\" title=\"New_DOE_Logo_Black_sm\" src=\"\/pasi\/files\/2010\/06\/New_DOE_Logo_Black_sm1.png\" alt=\"New_DOE_Logo_Black_sm\" width=\"264\" height=\"64\" \/><\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nsf.gov\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-13 aligncenter\" src=\"\/pasi\/files\/2010\/06\/logo_NSF.png\" alt=\"logo_NSF\" width=\"62\" height=\"62\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The Pan-American Advanced Studies Institutes Program (PASI) is a joint funding initiative of the National Science Foundation (NSF) and the Department of Energy (DOE).<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The aim of the program is the dissemination of advanced scientific and engineering knowledge, and fostering training and cooperation among researchers in the Americas. \u00a0The focus is on mathematical, physical and biological sciences, geosciences and computer and information sciences, and the engineering fields.<\/p>\n<p>The proposal for this PASI, titled <strong>&#8220;Scientific Computing in the Americas: the challenge of massive parallelism&#8221;<\/strong>, was submitted to NSF in early 2010, and selected for funding in June. \u00a0It will be held on <strong>January 3\u201314, 2011<\/strong> at Universidad T\u00e9cnica Federico Santa Mar\u00eda, in Valpara\u00edso, Chile. \u00a0The principal investigator and main organizer of this PASI is <a href=\"http:\/\/barbagroup.bu.edu\/\">Professor Lorena A Barba<\/a>, from the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Boston University.<\/p>\n<p>The awarded funding of US$100,600 will permit 12 distinguished lecturers from the US, Mexico and Argentina to attend this PASI to give lectures and interact with the local scientific community in Valpara\u00edso, Chile; \u00a0it will also award travel grants to 30 graduate students and postdoctoral scholars to attend as general participants.<\/p>\n<p>Applications for travel grants were\u00a0received online until October 1st, 2010.
