He joined the faculty of Columbia University in 2000 and became full Professor in 2008.<\/p>\n<p>Professor Spiegelman&#8217;s research interests include understanding the dynamics and observable consequences of fluid flow in strongly deformable porous media. \u00a0 His current computational research \u00a0focuses on methods and software for more flexible exploration and solution of multi-physics problems including using tools for automatic code generation for multi-physics problems (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.fenics.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">FEniCS<\/a>) and rapid composition of physics-based preconditioners using PETSc.<\/p>\n<h3>Research interests<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>computational geophysics<\/li>\n<li>magma dynamics<\/li>\n<li>parallel computation for multi-physics problems<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Sample publications<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>The dynamics of melt and shear localization in partially molten aggregates, R.
