{"id":311,"date":"2010-08-11T18:06:16","date_gmt":"2010-08-11T22:06:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/pasi\/?page_id=311"},"modified":"2019-07-05T12:58:37","modified_gmt":"2019-07-05T16:58:37","slug":"lisandro-dalcin","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/pasi\/people\/lisandro-dalcin\/","title":{"rendered":"Lisandro Dalcin, PhD"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-317 alignright\" title=\"LisandroDalcin200x200\" src=\"\/pasi\/files\/2010\/08\/LisandroDalcin200x200.png\" alt=\"LisandroDalcin200x200\" width=\"200\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/pasi\/files\/2010\/08\/LisandroDalcin200x200.png 200w, https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/pasi\/files\/2010\/08\/LisandroDalcin200x200-150x150.png 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 200px) 100vw, 200px\" \/><\/h2>\n<h2>About the speaker<\/h2>\n<p>Lisandro Dalc\u00edn obtained his PhD in Engineering from Universidad Nacional del Litoral (Santa Fe, Argentina) in 2008. \u00a0HIs first degree is in electromechanical Engineering from Universidad Tecnol\u00f3gica Nacional (Concepci\u00f3n del Uruguay, Argentina). \u00a0In 2010, he joined the National Council for Scientific and Technological Research of Argentina (Consejo Nacional de Investigaciones Cient\u00edficas y Tecnol\u00f3gicas) as an Assistant Researcher.<\/p>\n<p>Dr Dalc\u00edn is the author of <a href=\"http:\/\/mpi4py.scipy.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">mpi4py<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/code.google.com\/p\/petsc4py\/\" target=\"_blank\">petsc4py<\/a> \/ <a href=\"http:\/\/slepc4py.googlecode.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">slepc4py<\/a> \u2014 a set of bindings for the MPI standard and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mcs.anl.gov\/petsc\/petsc-as\/\" target=\"_blank\">PETSc<\/a> \/ <a href=\"http:\/\/www.grycap.upv.es\/slepc\/\" target=\"_blank\">SLEPc<\/a> libraries targeting parallel distributed computing with the high-level scripting language Python. \u00a0He is a semi-regular contributor to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cython.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Cython<\/a> project and also contributes to the development of the PETSc library. \u00a0He won the R&amp;D 100 Award in 2009 as part of the PETSc team.<\/p>\n<p>The areas of research interest of Dr Dalc\u00edn are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>scientific computing in distributed memory architectures<\/li>\n<li>medium to large scale finite element simulation<\/li>\n<li>software development and programming tools mixing Python and C\/C++ \u00a0and Fortran<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Sample publications<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>MPI for Python: performance improvements and MPI-2 extensions, Lisandro D.
