{"id":179,"date":"2010-07-02T15:46:01","date_gmt":"2010-07-02T19:46:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/pasi\/?page_id=179"},"modified":"2019-07-05T12:53:48","modified_gmt":"2019-07-05T16:53:48","slug":"lorena-barba","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/pasi\/people\/lorena-barba\/","title":{"rendered":"Lorena Barba, PhD"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-186 alignright\" src=\"\/pasi\/files\/2010\/07\/LorenaB200200.png\" alt=\"LorenaB200200\" width=\"200\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/pasi\/files\/2010\/07\/LorenaB200200.png 200w, https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/pasi\/files\/2010\/07\/LorenaB200200-150x150.png 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 200px) 100vw, 200px\" \/><\/h2>\n<h2>About the speaker<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/barbagroup.bu.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\">Prof. Lorena Barba<\/a> obtained her PhD in Aeronautics from California Institute of Technology in 2004. \u00a0Her first degrees (BSc, PEng) are in Mechanical Engineering from Universidad T\u00e9cnica Federico Santa Mar\u00eda, in Valpara\u00edso, Chile.<\/p>\n<p>In August 2004, she joined the Department of Mathematics at the University of Bristol, UK as a Lecturer in Applied Mathematics. \u00a0There, she was the leader of an EC-funded international project titled <a href=\"http:\/\/www.scat-alfa.eu\/\" target=\"_blank\">&#8220;Scientific Computing Advanced Training&#8221;<\/a> involving 10 institutions in Europe and Latin America. \u00a0The project allowed more than 30 young aspiring scientists to spend an extended period immersed in a research group in Europe.<\/p>\n<p>In the Fall of 2008, Dr Barba started a new position as Assistant Professor of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/me\/\" target=\"_blank\">Mechanical Engineering in Boston University<\/a>.
