After the cherubim
of the Spinozan intellect
Dante rose up to the seraphim of love
who were in that small-looking space
between the knowledge of God
and God
but you have taught me
it is too easy
to love what will never hurt us
we are made for this world

which we do not flee from
there being no gift more precious
than an opened heart

I have learned a sweetness
I saw again just last night
the innocence in the face
of the child violist
wholly focused on the music
