ing that tests new ways of giving form to constant feelings. Motherwel1's
own discussion of the process is particularly revealing:
The reason I've made so many works that could be called series - I
detest so-called "serial painting" - is simply because I feel I've never
fully resolved any of them. They remain an endless challenge. The day
I can make an
Elegy
that fully satisfies me, perhaps then I'll stop that
search.
But some searches would continue:
The mysteries of black are inexhaustible, as are even more those of the
human spirit. of which painting is a visible trace.
