PARTISAN REVIEW
All the same, the appearance of this collection of essays is to be
welcomed . There cannot be too many books that deconstruct the still
all-too-common view of science as an autonomous exercise of pure
reason carried out by disembodied, selfless spirits who are inex–
orably moving towards an objectively true knowledge of Nature,
and that promote instead a more realistic view of science as a
primarily social activity carried out by thought-collectives of people
seeking to understand and to manipulate the world that we construct
from our experience.
