a new and more exciting attitude towards the Bible as literature
and, even more important, towards the meaning of its venerable
stories, poems, proverbs, psalms, and wisdom literature. This ap–
proach is not dilettantish but serious and penetrating.
It
makes us
see in new ways some of the true profundities of the Bible. In an
areligious and irreligious world, they may help its members to see
the Book of Books in a new light and-may bring some enlighten–
ment to believers and even nonbelievers.
