THE LOUDSPEAKER
They were preparing a coup
says the junta
They were preparing to shed blood
they say wiping their hands on their uniforms
They already had lists of names
they say rattling on
in the ear of the cell
where we crouch
taken at midnight
our names checked off a list
REEDUCATORS
Old boys
now we have teachers again
scrubbed clothes pressed
a better sort
Soon they'll start teaching us
rewarding us for politeness
condemning us for bad behavior
We already know the first lesson
teachers are to be addressed:
Teacher, Sir
BROMIDE
That slop in pots and pails
is called coffee
