yes, I think of him at times
like today planting chrysanthemums
in the window box , I looked out
at hay in a passing truck
and thought

there's football on local

I keep it on
the cresting cheers the choppy voice
keep me alert at the bindery
I'm learning to letter spines
with gold leaf it's tight work
between innings, farm bulletins .
I think of him then
when I get up, I'm stiff
it's too soon ... I've begun
to reassess my goals
I want a studio
tackling woodcuts at home - portraits
ploughed faces like peach pits
I'm getting the knack
it feels good to gouge
