PARTISAN REVIEW
Jogiches back clandestinely to Warsaw. Between December, 1905 and
March, 1906, the two were reunited, but then Doth were arrested.
Despite the vicissitudes of their private lives after 1907 they stayed
closely in touch and there was a kind of sentimental rapprochement in
Rosa's last years. The assassinations of Luxemburg and Karl Lieb–
knecht were followed a few months later by that of Jogiches, who had
lingered in Berlin specifically
to
protest and possibly avenge Rosa's
death.
If
Rosa's political dream was smashed with the temporary
demise of German social democracy at the signing of the war credits on
August 4, 1914, her personal dream came to seem equally unrealizable
within the historical context of her own life.
