LETTERS
EDITORS:
My late husband, Ignazio
Silone, bequ eathed his archive
and correspondence to me with
the understanding that I make
them "avail able to future schol–
ars." I have decided to publish
the a rch ive in biographical
form, probably in several vol–
umes.
For thi s immense task I
shall need th e h elp of all fri ends,
an yone and everyon e who knew
Sil one before I met him (whi ch
was in December 1941), or who
knew him sin ce

in
circumstances or places other
than Rom e, and would be so
kind as to let me have their
EDITORS:
In my interview in
Partisan
R eview,
No.3, 1979, in an aside,
I described some poets arguing
years ago over their p ecking or–
der, and I named Robert Penn
Warren as present. My fri end
Stanley Kunitz has sternly re–
minded me tha t it was not War–
ren but All en Tate; and tha t the
rivalry was forced on the other
poets by Ro bert Lowell. To
Ro bert Penn Warren, my deepest
reminiscences of him; also of
an yone possessing letters from
him who would not mind
sending me photostat copies;
also of anyone possessing, or
knowing how to find, articl es,
etc., by him or concerning
him-in any language. Given
the chaoti c situation of the
Italian post for the last thirteen
years, it would be better to
register.
If
no acknowledgement
from me is received, it means the
letter ha not reached me.
I need not say how grateful I
should be for an y help of thi s
kind.
Yours, etc.

I saw the rough draft of the
