THERE WE HELD DUET AND DUEL
Pears in rows of rooms, States near den of god
Time in all we felt to feel inside time, beside time, or deny it
And continue on our way in sail without wind, without hint
without habit
Shirking not from failure, for failure it was to see, to miss then
something accepted
There in view now there in wait, as if embedded here for memory
Gone we were from then yet still held by fruit, clinging to its
past
Absorbed to a branch poising soul , around of it ourselves the
rind
Ourselves outside thickly toward the thirst, to take inside its
truth
Down in what we are when we meet ourselves arriving, do we
accept oursel ves the drink
Winding down what was in us undoing the coil unravelling
light
Upshedding proof of common failure, potential of bloom from
its root
Outward further accepting enriching the ghoul, his inward pyre
invaded with difference
His reason broke in thirds, the wars among the two and God
Sealed so visibly from mind to seek when after strength
Is awed and empty of power determined of sense
To so inquest us after life what much we led theseselves
To seek under a will some face ourselves in soul
Set apart from the will yet known in wake of learning mine own
Whose pace attends my being home from self ...
II
Whose god have we here, your wish or his act
And had you prepared the act would there be now prayer
As if
to
beseech him in you curtails demanding of him
For in vain led outside through his slaves
Those in murder of trust, whose need impels their being
