ri ghts to publi sh hi s book in Engli sh in return for a 10 percent roya lty
and an option on hi s succeedin g two books. T ha t las t prov ision of the
contract was fa r from being an empty ges ture. From Kahane's side it
indi ca ted faith in thi s new writer. From Mill er's it promi sed at least a
readin g fo r future books. Indeed, as he signed the contract he had
already written sixty pages of hi s next p rod ucti on , a bOOKwhi ch he was
inevitabl y ca lling
