th e eye, after waking, credul o us,
blinks down a t its own impul ses,

a t being so bo ld to keep wh a t they have

shade hovers a lways under foot,
th e less the more it doesn ' t a lways so,
but spot ou r brows with h eavy leafy blows
and we a re in tha t shadow's eye aga in
wh en the sun ho lds the lawn a t dawn
under o range and purpl e stripes of light
and th ere is so much sil ence in us then
if looking to ld a thing it would
endure one very beautiful wa rm sob.
