CONTEMPORARY NONSENSE
CHICAGO (CS-T) -
U.S. Attorney Thomas A. Foran says he has
contempt for the Chicago Seven.
"Bobby Seale had more guts and more charisma than any of
them," Foran said. "And he was the only one I don't think was a fag."
Coming in for hard knocks were defendants Abbie Hoffman, who
Foran said was "scummy but clever"; David T. Dellinger, who he said
was a "sneak and uses people like a ventriloquist"; the defense attorneys,
whom he called "mouthpieces," and some members of the press.
Foran expressed particular annoyance at newspaper coverage of
his cross-examination of Rennie Davis.
'It was the hardest cross-examination I've ever had," Foran said.
"That kid is as smart as a whip, but after
2~
days I got him to admit
he had come
to
Chicago to discredit the government.
Foran said it had been a "superhuman effort" for
him
to keep his
temper in the courtroom.
He said that he had been continually subjected to insults by Davis.
"I was his man," Foran said. "He'd sit near me and keep whisper–
ing insults to me all day about my sexual prowess."
Foran closed with a call for action by parents to save the younger
generation.
"We've lost our kids to the freaking fag revolution," he said, "and
we've got
to
reach out for them.
"Our kids don't understand that we don't mean anything by it
when we
call
people niggers," he concluded. "They look at us then
like we're dinosaurs when we talk like that."
