"WHITES IN MEMPHIS UNSHAKEN BY RIOT"
"MEMPHIS, March 30 - The white leadership in Memphis, which
has expressed pride in the city's racial climate for years, appeared largely
unshaken in its conviction today despite a costly riot in the downtown
area this week.
"'It's not bad at all,' said Thomas W. Faires, president of the
Memphis area Chamber of Commerce.
'If
the Negro ministers would
tend to their ministering instead of trying to stir things up, we wouldn't
have had this trouble. . . .'
"Many Negroes have no background, Mr. Faires said ... , and often
they won't work.
"Also, he continued, the Federal Government has ruined a number
of them with a lot of programs."

"COLLEGE PLANS VIETNAM TOWN"
"SAULT STE. MARIE, MICH.-A model Vietnamese village complete
with death traps used by the Vietcong against United States soldiers
will be built near Lake Superior State College next year as a tourist
attraction. Maj. Thomas P. Kaine, chairman of the college's military
science department, said that the village would be built by students and
members of the local National Guard."
