A Prize
of
Two Hundred and Fifty Dollars
for the best essay on any of the following topics. The four topics
will constitute the program of the 1966 session at Columbia Uni–
versity, September 6 through 9, 1966:
1.
TROILUS AND CRISEYDE

2. CRITICISM AND BIOGRAPHY

Irvin Ehrenpreis)
3. CRITICISM AND HISTORY
(Chairman,
Larzar Ziff)
4. WILLIAM CARLOS WILLIAMS
(Chairman,
Reed Whittemore)
Essays, which must be no longer than 6,000 words, should be sub–
mitted before July 1, 1966, to Scott Elledge (Department of English,
Cornell University, Ithaca, New York), the chairman of the 1966
session.
The prize-winning essay will be read by its author and discussed
by members of the Institute at the 1966 meeting, to be held at
Columbia University, September 6-9.
The Supervising Committee of the English Institute reserves the
right
to
award no prize if in its judgment none of the essays
is
prize-worthy.
All essays submitted should be accompanied by a self-addressed,
stamped envelope.
