respond as never before to the failure of responsibility. Harrington's
criticism is not so irrelevant as some of his contemporaries might
think.
Has social development, he asks, departed so markedly from the patterns
outlined by the authors from whom he draws sustenance that their analy–
ses no longer apply? Harrington doubts it, and I agree. His book force–
fully demonstrates that the radical posture may still be valid.
