"I
AM HERE WAITING FOR THE SUNRISE"
-EZRA POUND, CANTO
LXXIX
I am here waiting the sunrise
And the Spring of my 21 years
Disappears with the sea 5 miles
From the span of my hand
And the boats moving into
The night. I am standing waist-high
In the waves, nor is this
Yet natural when I come out
Into the air. Here
No wind is stronger than are
The efforts I make in the boat;
The stroke of the oars
Move me more or less than a day
Whose only right is the power
To change with the clouds.
