But For Whom?
Not for those who want to see
a new radical journal, non-con–
formist, anti-Stalinist, socialist in
accent. Not for those who want
boldness in thought, and the
beginnings of a new American
radicalism. Among the editors,
present and future contributors:

WILL YOU ••ADOPT!'!'
A SPANISH CIVIL WAR REFUGEE?
Manuel C. was born in 1906 in Spain. By profession a waiter, at the time of the Civil
War he was General Secretary of the Food Workers Union. Rose to the rank of
Lieutenant in the Army. Fled to .France at the end of the Civil War in 1939, forced
to leav& his wife and 2 boys in Spain. III with pleurisy, spent a year in 3 hospitals.
From 1940 to '43 he worked as a mechanic in Tarbes and Boulogne and then joined
the Resistance. He now lives alone, ill and aging.
Manuel C. lives on 4000 frcs. a month (about $11) which is "not enough for the
barest necessities. I have no overcoat and only one thin' cotton quilt. I would be most
grateful for anything you could send. Thank you for opening a new horizon of hope."
HERE IS WHAT YOU CAN DO-
Spanish Refugee Aid has been set up to help people like Manuel C . Thousands of
these veterans of the first war against fascism, and their femilies, are living in France
today, some sick, some old, all poor and forgotten. After fifteen years of exile, war,
Nazi prison camps, and low-paid jobs, these people cannot survive without help. Will
you "adopt" a Spanish Republican family-i.e. send them regular help? Or will you
make a contribution to our work?
