A
PARABLE OF SIMPLE HUMANITY
And the Roumanian woman doctor was wrong in being what she
was; for the
art
of healing meant death for those who had conceived
new life.
9
And the Roumanian woman doctor wrestled with her angel. Though
an outcast in the dungeons of death, she was still a human being; anq
as a human being she wrestled with her angel as Jacob who was an
outcast
wrestl~d
with his angel-to be forever blessed. Into the strug–
gle she threw her sex, her profession, and life here and everlasting ;
for it was also known, once upon a time, but still in our time and
memory, by law of nature and divine decree, that unborn life within
the womb is sacrosanct.
The Roumanian woman doctor risked death and eternal damna–
tion in performing her nocturnal abortions- not one or two or three,
but hundreds and thousands. And the Roumanian woman doctor came
to
be
hailed as a hero on behalf of " simple humanity" at the price of
thousands of lives which might have been, but never were and never
will be. And the Roumanian woman doctor was right in being what she
was by committing this enormous wrong.
