TO DE SPECIFIC-
For almost a year, we have been using this space to emphasize the fact that we are a
specialized bookshop. Now we propose to describe, in a series of more detailed announcements,
the kind of stock which has been built in accordance with this policy. For an appropriate be–
ginning1 here is an outline of our CINEMA collection-one of the three largest m New York
City, wnich means, to the best of our knowledge, in the United States as well.
We always have on hand whatever basic works in the field are currently in print. Examples,
as of this month, are Eisenstein's FILM SENSE; Rosten's HOLLYWOOD; Jacobs' RISE OF
THE AMERICAN FILM; THE FILM INDEX; and GRIERSON ON DOCUMENTARY.
We are constantly on the lookout for such comparatively rare classics as Pudovkin's FILM
ACTING and FILM TECHNIQUE: Nielsen's CINEMA AS A GRAPHIC ART; Rotha's FILM
TILL NOW DOCUMENTARY FILM and MOVIE PARADE; Ramsaye's MILLION AND
ONE NIGHTS; and Spottiswoode's GRAMMAR OF THE FILM. These are invariably sold
almost as soon as received, and we are therefore unable to speak of them as actually being
in
stock at any given time.
Our imports are extensive and highly interesting. They include such works as BRITISH
FILM MUSIC by John Huntley; SOCIOLOGY OF FILM by J . P. Mayer; THE PENGUIN
FILM REVIEW; FILM, by Roger Manvell; GEORGES MELIES (in French), by Maurice
Bessy and Lo Duca; and a number of rather specialized paper-backed treatises in French, :Italian,
and Spanish.
Among the periodicals which we carry are SCREEN WRITER, HOLLYWOOD QUAR–
TERLY, CINEMA (the new American publication), FILM FORUMJ.. FILM NEWS, SIGHT
AND SOUND, DOCUMENTARY NEWS LETTER, and LA REVU.t. DU CINEMA.
In addition, we have a great many less substantial items
which
may serve to fill gaps in
individual collections: novels about the
movies,
both domestic and foreign; biographies, serious
and otherwise, of individual actors, actresses, froducers, and directorsj popularized "behind-the–
scenes" pictures and copy; "photoplay editions ' of numerous novels; toreign fan magazines; etc.
In this, as in our other fields o£ interest, we invite you to
list
S{'ecific
wants
with
us. We
are always happy to search for books not now in stock, and will furniSh quotations as promptly
as possible.
