ODE
HUSKING BEE
Didactic eyes- furred
light rings foxed
in fear - melt to
geraniums boxed
under the trespassing word.
Such follies bloom! Be thou
the gander. Words
work the bridegroom;
the red ear mocks
the hand of the shuckster.
Shy as a vixen
she turns; her smile
repents. 0 fly
away, my lady; burr
your optic instrument.
From rented cornfield bring
to crib the corn,
the hand remembering
the ribald cornsilk
fiddle to the harvest horn.
