ONLINE: CURA Colloquium: Islam and Feminism: A Senegalese Conversation with Religion

Women's movements in Senegal have a long history of working towards community building, financial independence, and legislative changes. This paper addresses one of the latter in terms of fairer political gender representation and further examines the effects and interactions of this movement with Islam. In doing so, the author points out to the complex relationship between women's rights and Islam and makes an argument against the often conventional notion that Islam works against the improvement of women's status and political and social rights. *Reading the working paper in advance is required for attendance.* Email cura@bu.edu to participate in the event!
