Collaborating to Create Positive Pathways for Youth Forum

  • Starts: 3:30 pm on Friday, March 8, 2019
  • Ends: 5:00 pm on Friday, March 8, 2019

On Friday March 8th from 3:30pm – 5pm at 180e Riverway, leaders of the Massachusetts Child Welfare and Juvenile Justice Leadership Forum will convene to discuss how they have been working collaboratively to transform the way that children and youth throughout the Commonwealth are supported to be on positive life pathways.

This forum is a presentation of the BU Wheelock College of Education & Human Development and the Massachusetts Child Welfare and Juvenile Justice Leadership Forum. The Leadership Forum is a collective impact group comprised of key government and non-profit sector stakeholders who believe that promoting the positive development of young people and families is the best path to child well-being, healthy communities and public safety.

This is a rare opportunity to hear from state leaders about efforts in the Commonwealth to impact measurable and equitable increases in educational success and legal permanency for children in the child welfare and juvenile justice system. The Leadership Forum also seeks to reduce racial and ethnic disparities in the juvenile justice system, and to integrate a positive youth development (PYD) approach into the system.

The panel discussion, moderated by Dean ad Interim David Chard, will consist of:

Ed Dolan, Commissioner, Massachusetts Probation Service

Peter Forbes, Commissioner, Massachusetts Department of Youth Services

Russell Johnston, Senior Associate Commissioner, Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education

Mike Dsida, Deputy Chief Counsel, Children and Family Law Division

Hon. Amy Nechtem, Chief Justice, Juvenile Court of Massachusetts, and

Linda Spears, Commissioner, Massachusetts Department of Children and Families
