Mobius/808 Infuse: Marilyn Arsem, Joanne Rice + Tom Plsek

  • Starts: 7:00 pm on Thursday, June 12, 2014
In the last ten days of spring, Boston-based performance art group Mobius will present five nights of live art at 808 Gallery. Mobius/808 Infuse presents each artist with the substantial challenge of creating site-sensitive artworks for the 11,000 square foot gallery. Artists are asked how can they leverage the scale and character of the space through minimal approaches and still generate depth and complexity in their work. Over twenty established and emerging artists will be participating throughout the series. Marilyn Arsem has been creating live events since 1975, ranging from solo performances to large-scale works incorporating installation and performance. She has presented work at festivals, alternative spaces, galleries, museums, conferences and universities throughout Europe, Asia, North and South America. She is a full-time faculty member at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, where she teaches performance art. Trombone explorer Tom Plsek has been stretching trombones and our concepts of them for years. His compositions include pieces for ensembles and solo trombone often incorporate improvisation, technology, and performance art. Joanne Rice, a longtime member of Mobius, has produced performances, installations and public actions since 19878 throughout the Boston area, in programs such as Eventworks at MassArt, the Cyberarts Festival, and the Mobius International Festival of Performance Art, and at the ‘In the Context of Art/Differences’ International Festival in Warsaw, Poland. Much of her recent work has been sited outdoors, including, in the Boston area, at Trinity Church, Boston Common, City Hall Plaza, Fort Point, and Quincy quarry.
