  • Starts: 5:30 pm on Tuesday, February 25, 2014
  • Ends: 7:00 pm on Tuesday, February 25, 2014
Chun-yi Sum, Department of Anthropology, BU || Wondering what is it like to be a college student from the other side of the world? Or simply want to find out the reasons behind the growing Chinese student population at BU and other American universities? ASIABU welcomes you to find the answers with us through discussion with Chun-Yi Sum from BU’s Anthropology Department. Sum will share her research works on volunteerism and civic consciousness among college students in South China. She will analyze how on-campus associational experiences affect young people’s moral worldviews when they unwittingly disempower idealistic students from making sustainable and meaningful social contributions. Sum will also talk about her personal experience in China along with cultural shock and comparison between Chinese and American universities, and especially the experience of Chinese students at BU. The talk will be followed by a discussion with Sum. Ideal for students who are interested in contemporary youth culture, especially for those who are considering study or work abroad in the PRC. Students from China are likewise strongly encouraged to participate and share thoughts and their experiences with us. Organized by ASIABU, co-sponsored by BU Chinese Students and Scholars Association & BU Center for the Study of Asia.
Location:
Department of International Relations, 152 Bay State Road Room 220
