Theorizing Mutual Constitutiveness and The Sexuality of Migration: Lionel Cantú's Contributions to Sociology

Salvador Vidal-Ortiz has published many essays in his main areas of interest: race and ethnicity, gender and sexuality, transgender/transsexual studies, Santería, migration, U.S. racialization processes, and qualitative methods (including autoethnographic writings). He is working on a book on Santería and sexual minorities, and has another book project on Oral Histories and Latina/o LGBT Activists in the US from the 70s on. As a recent Fulbright research scholar, he is looking at forced migration in Colombia, currently the country with the largest number of internally displaced people. He is the chair of the Section on the Sociology of Sexualities of the American Sociological Association, and helped found the Section on Body and Embodiment of the same organization. He edited, with Nancy Naples, The Sexuality of Migration: Border Crossings and Mexican Immigrant Men (NYU Press, 2009). He will give his talk from that book.
