ASIABU: Free Peabody Essex Museum Tour (in Salem)

  • Starts: 8:45 am on Saturday, October 26, 2013
Thinking about going to Salem, Massachusetts for the annual Haunted Happenings over the Halloween weekend? Why don't you join us for a guided tour to Peabody Essex Museum and its Yin Yu Tang for FREE* during the day? Peabody Essex Museum (PEM), founded in 1799, is one of the oldest continuously operating museums in the US. Other than its deep-rooted history, the Museum is known for holding one of the major collections of Asian art—about 1.3 million pieces, as well as 22 historic buildings, including Yin Yu Tang House. Yin Yu Tang House, meaning Hall of Plentiful Shelter, is a late 18th century Chinese house from Anhui province that had been removed from its original village and re-erected in PEM. Meet at the gate of Barnes & Noble @ Boston University Bookstore (660 Beacon Street) at 8:45 AM on Saturday October 26th, 2013 to go to the Museum together (via Kenmore, North Station, Salem Station), or you may choose to go on your own connivence and meet us at the gate of the Museum at 10:30 AM. *All admission and guided tour fees are covered by ASIABU, but all travel and accommodations costs ($2 single T ride to North Station and $13.5 for round train ticket to Salem) are your responsibility. There is limited space so please RSVP via email (asiabu@bu.edu) with your name and contact number. It's first come first serve! Summery of the day: 8:45 Meet in front of Barnes & Noble to take T together to the North Station. 9:15 Arrive at the North Station, buy tickets and breakfast. 9:30 Take the train depart to Salem. 10:10 Arrive at SALEM. 10:30 Arrive at the museum. 12:45 The end of the guided museum tour. The rest of the day is yours! We recommend a lunch first with the rest of the group to get to know each other better. After that, why not visit the Witch Museum, haunted houses, or cemeteries to pre-celebrate Halloween? Don't miss the opportunity to walk around the beautiful harbor to see the Friendship of Salem as well as the unique shops around the town. *The train back to Boston North Station comes every hour. The earliest one after the museum tour is 1:20pm, and the latest is 10:38. You can decide when to go back on that day, and you and your friends can choose what time to leave in your own convenient time.
