  • Starts: 2:00 pm on Friday, February 1, 2013
  • Ends: 4:00 pm on Friday, February 1, 2013
This tutorial includes a brief introduction to basic programming in python, including basic types (Integer, Float, String, and Boolean), if-statements, functions, lists, dictionaries, loops, and modules. This is an introduction to the essential features of Python. We’ll do some interactive tasks, for example implementing a vector dot-product. After this tutorial you’ll be ready to explore all the amazing modules Python has to offer. We will work on our Linux cluster and you should feel comfortable opening and editing files with a text editor. Requirements: some programming experience in other programming languages (e.g. you understand basic programming concepts like loops or functions); familiarity with the command line (Introduction to Linux tutorial or equivalent); and familiarity with one of the text editors on the Linux cluster (vi, emacs, nedit, etc.). This tutorial is offered twice. You can attend either of the sessions.
