Ambassador Mark C. Storella<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Channel 10, the Boston NBC affiliate ran an assessment of reactions to the Iran War ceasefire announcement April 9 for which they drew on comments by Mark Storella<\/a>, Pardee Professor of the Practice of Diplomacy. In the segment, “How people are reacting to Trump’s threats to Iran and ceasefire announcement,\u201d the TV journalists noted that the White House is calling the ceasefire a U.S. victory, while highlighting that other reactions range from relief to concern to disappointment.<\/p>\n

Ambassador Storella said President Trump had backed down to achieve the ceasefire and added that the agreement was not on a solid basis, raising concerns about how durable it would be. Massachusetts Congressperson Ayana Pressley expressed gratitude at the halt in the fighting, but called for removal of President Trump under the 25th amendment in light of his threat to eliminate the Iranian civilization. A local Iranian American urged that the U.S. continue to push for Iran to respect the rights of its own people and for the issue of the Iran war to be insulated from American domestic politics.<\/p>\n

Mark C. Storella<\/span><\/a> is the professor of the practice of diplomacy at the <\/span>Frederick S. Pardee School of Global Studies<\/span><\/a>. He served as a United States Foreign Service Officer for more than three decades. Besides being an ambassador to Zambia, he was a deputy assistant secretary of State for Population, Refugees, and Migration and dean of the Leadership and Management School of the Foreign Service Institute.
