The professor discussed the fourth China-CELAC (Community of Latin American and Caribbean States) Ministerial Forum held in Beijing last month, which symbolized the flourishing ties between the Eastern superpower and Latin America. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_51737\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-51737\" style=\"width: 543px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/pardeeschool\/files\/2022\/02\/Jorge-Heine-The-Heat1-533x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"533\" height=\"300\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-51737\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-51737\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Amb. Jorge Heine<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Heine explained that the presence of the three most prominent leaders of South America \u2014 President <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Luiz In\u00e1cio Lula da Silva of Brazil,<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> President Gabriel Boric of Chile, and President Gustavo Petro of Colombia \u2014 at the forum sends a very powerful message. Their trade coalition with President Xi Jinping coincides with the rising tensions between China and the United States. It demonstrates that the Latin American leadership refuses to choose sides and intends to maintain healthy commercial relations with both superpowers.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The trade between China and South America has already surpassed $500 billion. This automatically makes China the number one trading partner for the southern continent. Heine explained South American countries have benefited greatly from China\u2019s proactive involvement in the continent\u2019s growth not only with regards to trade but also infrastructure-based investments.
